Empress of Fashion-new blog

The late Eleanor Lambert, known as the Empress of Fashion (dubbed so by the New York times), spent more than 70 years of her life tirelessly creating the institutions and the events that put American fashion on the map. Miss Lambert singlehandedly changed the way the world views fashion.

Eleanor Lambert was the originator of The International Best Dressed List as well as the concept of Fashion Week in New York that she later expanded abroad. She created the Coty Awards and the Council of Fashion Designers of America. She helped to found MoMA, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the annual Costume Institute Gala. She represented fashion designers and turned them into stars, superstars and some… legends.

Her story is one of the greatest untold stories of the 20th Century and American culture and now that is all being captured online -created by someone who knows the story: John Tiffany.  Mr. Tiffany had the honor of being mentored by Miss Lambert.
